Valyn (Val) E. Weekly, age 65, Topeka, Kansas passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2010 from lung cancer as a result of asbestos exposure.  He was born in Sedalia Missouri on September 22, 1944 to George and Dorothy Weekly.  He was a graduate of Topeka High School and Emporia State University.  Survivors are his wife of 37 wonderful years, Carol Weekly; his beloved cat (Bear); brother, Gary (Jenay) of Topeka, Kansas; two nieces, Chelsea Langland (Tim) and Ashley Dudley (Robert); and two great-nieces, Maura Langland and Willow Dudley.  Val was a Navy Veteran serving on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War.  During his career he worked for Security Benefit, Department of Aging, and the past 10 years for the State of Kansas, retiring in September 2009.  Memorial services will be Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the University Methodist Church at 1:00 PM.  His wish was to be cremated.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Midland hospice, Topeka, Kansas.
