After high school I tried to join the navy to be able to go to nurses school.

I was sent to Kansas City and joined a group of six who were  there to be checked out and join the navy.

I was the only woman, Barton Harbor was one of the men and a poor young man who was very hopeful to join the Navy, I do not remember the other three men.

Four of the group were accepted ,processed and sent off for training.

Barton Harbor was one of them. That is the last time I saw Barton as he went off to serve our country.

Two of us were rejected, me, I was too fat for the navy, and the poor young man, he had epilepsy.
So I went home and took another path.

The group went out for supper the evening before our physicals, we had a great time getting to know each other.  Since Barton and I already knew each other we just laughed and had a good time with the others.

Aloha Barton may you continue to rest in peace.

Much Aloha, Glenda

Herbert (Barton) Harbor was a great classmate...Enjoyed singing with him in our THS Men's Glee Club....He was a much better bass singer than me....I'm sure those of us who knew Barton enjoyed our THS classmate years with him as well....He was a good guy....a good friend to have known....

I was a friend and classmate of Bartons.  We were in several classes together and I loved being around him.  He was a special friend and I have special memories of him.  You will be so missed dear friend.  My condolences to family and friends.
