In Memory

Daiga Bresavs (Purins)

Daiga Bresavs (Purins)

I have been informed by Daiga's daughter, Indra Purin,  that Daiga passed away on September 11, 2021 of a brain hemorrhage after a fall at home in Topekas, Kansas.  Daiga was born March 6, 1944 and was a graduate of Topeka High School.  She is survived by her daughter Indra Purins.

If a formal obituary is published sometime in the future, I will update this page.

Respectfully submitted,

RIP Diaga, I didn't know You well but I'm sure you've left good memories for those who know You best.  Bill

Daiga was one of my best friends in grade school. I thought her life story was amazing. How she was caught in the action in World War II.  How her stepfather built the house they lived in in Topeka. How she would get married in a big Latvian ceremony. And how the Latvian community was so important to her.

I remember Daiga from my years at THS.  Knew who she was and was always nice to me.  Glad we got to be friends even though we weren't close.  My blessings to her family.

Elaine thank you for giving us a brief summary of Daiga's remarkable background. I knew her only casually at THS but regret not knowing her better. She seemed to be a quiet girl and quite beautiful. So saddened by the loss of another amazing classmate.

Have read about Daiga's married life each year in her comments and as her birthdays passed.  Always found her brief life review to be one which left lots to the imagination---intriguing.  Have hoped to meet her at our reunion to fill in the blanks----so sorry to know that this is now impossible.  Her loss is most difficult for her daughter of course, yet is important to all of us as we share the grief in the passing of another classmate.  RIP.

I'm always saddened when I receive notice of the passing of our classmates. Diane's comments make me wish I had known her while in high school. I believe I would likely have liked her, but am positive that I would have had great respect for her. RIP Daiga.

I met Daiga when she joined our third grade at Topeka Lutheran School at 7th and Roosevelt in Topeka. Daiga was wearing grey leather suede shorts with over the shoulder straps and so I asked her where she was from. She tried to explain it to me in her broken English, but I had little idea what she was saying. I did learn later that she was from Latvia a country near Russia. In 1944   Russia invaded Latvia and her father was sent to Siberia, so Daiga [ 6 months old ] and her mother spent the next five years in a concentration camp.  Daiga’s mother remarried, and so Daiga was raised by her mom and her stepfather Fritz.  I will miss seeing Daiga she will be missed.
