Richard G. Griffiths, 72, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016.

He was born March 4, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Norman and Grace (Wilson) Griffiths. He attended Topeka High School until his senior year when he left and joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. While in the service he completed his GED and upon returning to Topeka, he exchanged it at Topeka High School for a diploma. Richard was employed by Goodyear for 40 years until his retirement and was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Richard married Ilene Sue May on October 1, 1965. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2005. Survivors include his loving friend and companion, Margaret Honigs; a daughter, Lora Ann Griffiths; grandchildren, Justin Griffiths, Kelsey Sanstra, Lacy Harmon, and Robert Harmon; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Harmon.

A funeral ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3625 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, where the family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
